Baby is a nearly 4yr old small crossbreed (probably a Cavapoo or similar), she is spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated, flea and worm treated and has a clean bill of health. She will be rehomed with 5 weeks free pet insurance.
Baby came to us after her very elderly owner was struggling to care for her, she had sadly got into a bit of a mess and had lived quite a sheltered life so found it all a bit scary but after a lovely pamper with the groomer and settling into her foster home she has truly blossomed. She has been with us for several months now. She did briefly find a new home but unfortunately has recently been returned as she was not getting on with the resident dog and the new owners were unable to manage some of her behaviours we describe below.
Baby is now a happy little dog, she can still be nervous of new people and new situations and will bark at first but once she settles and knows you she is a funny girl and very playful. She has really grown in confidence in the months she has spent with us and is ready to find the right patient, experienced, caring home to continue her journey. She is a dog that needs further input and will no doubt show some challenging behaviours in her new home as she tests the boundaries.
She has shown us some issues with her behaviour which are mainly centred around her general lack of socialisation in those early years, she sometimes just doesn't know how to interact properly.
Baby is generally good with the other dogs in foster care and has found them really good in building her confidence and social skills but she can get over the top with them which can lead to scuffles, she can divert onto another dog when the door knocks and gets over stimulated quite easily. It can be managed in a home with just one other dog but it will need commitment from a new owner to work with this. She would be better living with a young dog who is larger than herself and who is very confident, assertive and outgoing otherwise she will take advantage and can be a bully.
She very much lacks doggy social skills and sometimes gets too over the top with other dogs when playing or meeting a new dog, her play style is very rough, she loves wrestling and is vocal with it so needs a dog who will play in a similar style and be tolerant and non reactive but confident with her. Whilst we would love her to have a canine pal it's been so difficult finding the right match for her, a resident dog would need to be probably larger than her, well rounded, tolerant, neutered, non reactive but very playful, a lot to ask. She isn't suited to living with older or quiet dogs, those who are used to a quieter life would find her wayyyyy too much. So with all that in mind we have decided to open up her applications to experienced homes where she is the only pet but with people who are around a lot of the time and who also have plenty of experience with under socialised, nervous dogs who may display some challenging behaviour until you get to know each other.
As she has settled in with us she has displayed a few behavioural quirks such as trying to bite at feet at doorways when you try to leave on occasions so new owners need to be confident and capable to managing this going forward, we have been working on a training plan for this which, with consistency is going well, she does get overwhelmed and over stimulated quite easily and we would hope this will settle more in a home with less dogs to arouse her.
She will bark and jump up at cats and potentially chase so needs a feline free home, she isn't suited to a busy home or a home with children.
Baby is eating well, is good with the groomer and the vets, is getting more confident on the lead and gets excited for walks now when going out on familiar routes with a canine friend, be aware that she will be very scared at first in a new home and new environment and will need
slow gentle encouragement whilst she settles, she will also initially could be a flight risk.
Baby will need an active home who can take her on lots of adventures once fully settled in and play with her, she is a lively active dog not a quiet lap dog.
She travels ok in the car, sleeps downstairs quietly at night and is now housetrained.
Baby does need a VERY secure home, both in terms of security of the garden but also around doorways and exits as she is a door darter so please be mindful of this when applying.
Being fostered in Swadlincote but can be rehomed further afield to the perfect home subject to homecheck and adoption donation of £200
