members of the Wonky Pets Rescue Centre based at Swadlincote
Our Forever Animals
This album below is dedicated to those animals who have found a lifetime of sanctuary with the rescue. This could be for a variety of reasons, some have medical issues, others some behavioural problems brought on from past trauma and abuse, some are extremely elderly and just need a safe place to spend their retirement years.
Little Ziggy is 16yrs old and came to us a few weeks ago after her elderly mum sadly was unable to care for her any longer.
Ziggy has a heart problem that previous vets had left untreated sadly, she has a Grade 6 heart murmur and a heart scan by our vets showed some significant heart disease with her left ventricle enlarged. Ziggy is now on appropriate medication to support her heart and will remain on this for life and under our close supervision as one of our FOREVER Animals who is in a permanent foster home now and we will support her medical needs for life.
Ziggy also has some age related changes to her eyes and some early signs of dementia which we are also supporting. We are hoping she can enjoy her time with us for some time yet

Sidney is our latest oldie to join us as a permanent foster, at 15yrs old he found himself wandering the streets and ended up in the stray pound. Despite being chipped to a high rise in the middle of the city no one came to claim him. Poor Sidney had been neglected for a while, his coat was filthy, he had acute hair loss all along his back, infected eyes and is suffering with cataracts, arthritis and some signs of early dementia. He was underweight too but he has been loving his food with us, his bloods showed his organ functions were still all really good which meant we could give him some appropriate effective pain relief for his aches and pains and he is so much more comfortable now. He is such a sweetheart, he loves pottering around and little walks, is great with all animals and people and has found a perfect permanent foster home with a lovely friend of the rescue with another older dog and a lovely large cottage garden to enjoy in a beautiful village.......a far cry from his previous life in an inner city high rise flat and just what he deserves. So naughty Henry cocker has become a permanent resident here, he has been here since Feb 21 after arriving with a pretty impressive bite history and threats of being put to sleep by not only one but 3 different people. He has never bitten here but an attempt to rehome him didnt go well and we feel its in everyones interest including Henry's for him to stay where he feels safe.

Elvis was rehomed by us 5yrs ago when he was just a piglet, sadly his owner is moving and cant take Elvis with her so he is coming back to join our resident animals to live here at the rescue.

Amy is a 15yr old miniature schnauzer who's owner sadly passed away recently. Sadly Amy has some significant anaemia and liver changes so will remain with us as a permanent sanctuary dog in a forever foster home. It's easy.
Loui had been allowed to get away with some guarding behaviour as a pup and lacked having real boundaries and instead of tackling his issues when he first showed some concerns at 7 moths, his behaviour was allowed to escalate and he was mishandled in his original home. He is now safely with us as a Forever animal.

Dwaine (wonky legs) is our last remaining resident Alpaca but his best friend is Barbie the sheep so he isnt lonely they are always together, he is an older boy with deformed back legs who came several years ago to live out his retirement. Dwaine has extremely wonky legs and is slower than the other animals so is always last one out of the paddock and last one in bless him.

Pete the show jumping goat who came to us as an emergency after his brother escaped his original home and was killed on the road. This boy hops straight over stock proof fencing as if it isn’t there and he shares his time between the rescue and our land neighbours where he loves his 2 little pygmy got girlfriends.

Digger is a naughty young cockapoo boy who will remain with us as a sanctuary dog for the forseeable future as his behavioural issues mean he isnt safe to be rehomed. He is very happy here and most importantly safe from any harm.

Rufus is a 14yr old pugillare who came to us after his owner sadly passed away recently. Poor old Rufus has quite a few health issues going on ranging from a nasty ear infection that we have treated, dry eye, a heart murmur, severe arthritis, an enlarged testicle and his claws were curling round into his pads. Now on long term pain relief, CBD oil and Turmeric paste he is feeling much more comfortable and he will want for nothing for whatever time he has being loved and well cared for in one of our amazing end of life foster homes. He is such a sweetheart we are so pleased to have him with us.
Amy and Amelia are sisters who are resident semi ferals at the rescue.

Pricilla is one of our resident pigs, she arrived with us at Christmas 2020 as an emaciated mite ridden 10 month old, rescued by some friends of ours from living in a garden. Sadly her little sibling had already passed away before the rescuers got to them but Pricilla has blossomed into a beautiful healthy happy fat little piggy Safe forever here
Tinkerbelle is an yr old chihuahua rescued from an abusive home, she has needed complex surgery to remove a strange lump from her head believed to have been caused by trauma, she has a grave heart condition condition which requires medication and monitoring so is remaining with us as a Forever foster.

Bow joined us today as a forever foster as part of our Wonky family.
At 13yrs old Bow found herself in stray kennels where she has been for some time until we found out about her.
She has now joined one of our amazing foster families along with their GSD boy where she will be loved and cherished for the rest of her days with our support for any medical needs she has.
