PLEASE READ THIS WRITE UP CAREFULLY AND ONLY APPLY IF YOU MEET ALL THE CRITERIA. YOU MUST HAVE ANOTHER YOUNG, PLAYFUL, NEUTERED DOG IN YOUR HOME WE WILL NOT CONSIDER HOMING HIM AS A SINGLE DOG FOR REASONS EXPLAINED.
Caelan is a 9 month old poodle cross (possibly a miniature labradoodle), he is castrated, microchipped, flea and worm treated and vaccinated. He weighs around 12kg and is knee high. He has a clean bill of health and will be rehomed with 5 weeks free pet insurance.
Caelan came to us along with lots of other pups from a puppy farm where a colleague of ours helped get them out. They arrived smelly, skinny and very under socialised. All of the boys are very kissy and sweet and desperate to be loved but have varying degrees of nervousness that has come a long way but will still need work and input in their new forever homes. It would be ideal if you had previous experience of these types of ex puppy farm dogs.
Caelan is a shy, funny and super playful boy with his canine friends, he relies on other dogs for confidence as that's all he has ever known so it's imperative that he has at least one other dog in his forever home, they will need to be neutered, young enough to play a lot with him (he loves a game of wrestling and chase) and confident and well rounded enough to help him learn all about normal life.
Caelan is very loving with us at the rescue, he will come up for fuss but can still be wary if we try and approach him rather than him come to us, he has a lovely nature BUT anyone new will be scary for him and it will take him time to get to know you and maybe even approach you initially so you need to understand that, be patient and be prepared to build on that trust. He bonds quickly once he trusts you but if you want a dog that's going to immediately come running over to you, then that's not this boy.
Caelan has lacked any sense of a normal life before coming here, he lives in the house here with the other dogs and has learnt about some household noises such as washing machines etc, he is now mostly housetrained (except for an accident overnight) but this may of course take a little step back initially in a new home so you should be prepared for that.
He is really enjoying having balls and toys to play with but it's all a bit of a novelty and he is a pup so he can be destructive with them so tough toys are best. They seem to love a big rope toy. He has shown some slight possessiveness with the other pups over toys (and initially with food but that's now stopped) but its just noise and posturing. This is something that should resolve over time as he builds more confidence and knows he is always going to have access to these things now but its a behaviour to keep a check on and to handle correctly (no telling him off or forcing items off him as that will just reinforce the issue).
He does still have a safe smaller world here as he gets to run on our own land, as such he still doesn't know how to walk on a lead in a public place and this is going to be a slower process to build up his confidence. In the meantime he needs a home with a nice sized, secure garden that he can play in with his new canine pal.
He was scared, but a good boy at the vets, he travels in the car in a safe crate. He sleeps downstairs quietly at night with the other dogs and has no separation anxiety or issues around food or toys with people. He eats really well and still eats very quickly as he clearly wasn't used to having regular or much food previously. He takes treats really nicely.
Caelan will need a home where he won't be left for too long in the day, he can live with dog savvy children aged 10yrs and over, he ignores our livestock here and shows no malice towards cats so could learn to live with a dog savvy feline.
Caelan is being fostered in Swadlincote, South Derby's but can be rehomed further afield subject to home check and adoption donation of £300
