URGENT UPDATE - POOR CHARLIE HAS NEEDED TO RETURN TO KENNELS WHICH IS DEVASTATING FOR BOTH US AND HIM - WE URGENTLY NEED TO FIND THIS BOY HIS FOREVER HOME. HE NEEDS A RURAL TYPE HOME IDEALLY WITH LAND OR A VERY LARGE GARDEN, HE NEEDS OTHER PLAYFUL MEDIUM SIZED DOGS AND A QUIET HOUSEHOLD WITHOUT TOO MANY PEOPLE COMING AND GOING. PLEASE SHARE THIS BOY BLOSSOMS IN A HOME AND JUST NEEDS TO BE GIVEN A CHANCE.
Charlie is a 3 and a half year old mixed breed (size of a large collie), he is neutered, microchipped, flea and worm treated and will be rehomed with 5 weeks free pet insurance.
Charlie was originally brought over from Spain as a puppy by another rescue, he was placed in a home but returned sometime later and then spent the next 3yrs stuck in kennels and labelled as un-rehomeable.
Charlie was with us for several months and absolutely loved his life having the best of both worlds with a home where he can sit on the sofa but also a smallholding on which to have space and freedom but sadly he and one of the other large dogs took a dislike to each other so devastatingly for his own safety he has had to return to our rescue friend to continue his care while we urgently seek his forever home.
Charlie bonded quickly with his single carer in the home BUT he is still extremely fearful of anyone else that comes in and will run and hide away in his chosen bolthole in the house until they have left. He has just started to gain enough trust with one of our regular volunteers who visits to be able to come for a walk with her present.
Charlie is totally fixated on cats and small animals and also not to be trusted with the livestock, he has a very keen prey drive. He is however great with the other dogs in the pack and absolutely loves playing chase and rough and tumble with the spaniel types here. He plays hard though and isnt suitable to be homed with small or timid dogs as squealing or yelping can make his prey drive intensify. He 100000% needs other confident dogs in his new home though he would not cope as an only dog.
Charlie needs a quiet home with either a single person or a couple where there aren't many visitors coming and going all the time, he needs a rural home away from lots of traffic and noise and a home with people who have oooodles of patience to win over his trust and help to continue to build his confidence.
He absolutely LOVES water and will dive into the doggy paddling pool and large water troughs we have here and dig away to his hearts content.
Charlie is housetrained and sleeps downstairs with the other dogs quietly overnight, he will walk on the lead but obviously can panic at scary situations so needs to be kept very secure. (ideally the new home will have their own land on which to walk as we do here or access to a private secure field where he can run) He will travel in a crate in the care but finds it scary.
Charlie is happy to be groomed once he has bonded with you but he arrived with us quite matted so is currently sporting a bit of a short back and sides which is starting to grow back more now but it keeps him cooler in these summer months.
He eats well but is fed separately from the other dogs as he can be possessive over food with them, is a stranger comes to the home though he often wont eat his next meal. He has gained a good deal of weight since arriving here though as the stress of living a kennel life have left him quite thin poor lad.
Charlie is being cared for in Dartford, Kent, Derbys but can be rehomed further afield subject to a homecheck and the perfect home being found for him, an adoption donation of £195 applies.
