Saffron is a 2yr old red and white cocker spaniel girl, she is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, flea and worm treated and will be rehomed with 5 weeks free pet insurance. She also needed a broken canine tooth removing.
Saffron came to us from the pound, she has been an outside dog used for breeding before being dumped. She arrived with what looked like an infected eye but when our vets investigated further she had an old injury to her eye which has left her with severe dry eye in her right eye. She is currently producing no tears in that eye so is on an eye drop called Optimune which can help to restimulate tear production and then needs eye lubricant in her eye multiple times a day. She is such a super girl having her drops put in bless her its just become a bit of a routine. She is otherwise fit and well but her her eye isn't something that's going to resolve overnight and we don't want to hold her back in rescue when she could be enjoying her forever home.
We would like to support Saffron with her continued eye issue until it's resolved but in order to do that we would need her to be within easy traveling distance of one of our vets in either Swadlincote or
Northampton.
Saffron is a typical lively young working cocker, she loves to run and is full of energy. She is very typical of these dogs that we take from these backgrounds in that she absolutely craves love and affection and she will jump up for fuss and cuddles, just something they have previously lacked but are so desperate to be loved.
Saffron is in foster here with a dozen other dogs who she absolutely adores and she will definitely needs another active dog in her new home to play with, she loves a came of chase outside or wrestling on the sofa and can often be found curled up with one of the other dogs here.
She could potentially live with very dog savvy cats, she is good around livestock and we would be happy to consider homes with gentle respectful children aged 4yrs and over, there isn't a bad bone in this young lady.
Saffys recall is ok on a walk, she walks ok on the lead and travels really well in the car. She does need work with her housetraining as she hasn't quite got the hang of always going outside at the moment and its very much a work in progress so you will need to be 100% prepared to work with this, its like starting with an 8 week old puppy.
She sleeps downstairs here with other dogs at night, she is ok being left for a few hours but wouldn't be happy being left all day. She needs a nice full enclosed garden to play in and will need an active owner who can provide good length, interesting, ideally rural walks every day.
Saffron loves her food and is fed a mix of wet and dry food twice daily. She has no food aggression or possession issues.
Being fostered in Swadlincote but can be rehomed further afield subject to homecheck and adoption donation of £250
