Nacho is a 1yr old shih tzu male, he is castrated, fully vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated and has a clean bill of health. He will be rehomed with 5 weeks free pet insurance.
Nacho came to us from another rescue who needed help with him after his foster to adopt home didn't work out after just a few days of him being there, they had nowhere for him to go so we helped out by squeezing him in with us.
Nacho joined one of our experienced but busy foster homes with lots of other small dogs and overall did fantastically, he was very nervous and unsure for a couple of days but soon found his feet and seems to be enjoying the company of other dogs to play with.
Nacho reportedly came from an abusive background, it is clear that he has some insecurities around new people, particularly men and he will be nervous and vocal when someone new enters the home. He needs to be totally ghosted (ignored) by any visitor, no eye contact or any kind of interaction and he will soon settle down, with the help of a few tasty treats being dropped he is learning that visitors are friends not foes.
He is still such a young dog and whilst he does have that feisty shih tzu side to him he has so much time to soak up lots of training, input and confidence building to ensure he can totally enjoy the rest of his life feeling safe and understood. He is looking for a home with someone who has that experience and commitment to take him on that journey and not give up on him.
Nacho really is benefitting from being around the other small dogs and as such we want him to have another small, neutered, confident little dog in his new home who he can be buddies with and learn from. He isnt suitable to be rehomed with cats and cannot be homed with resident children under 14yr.
Nacho does not like being groomed but our amazing groomers worked wonders with him this week using treats as a motivator, they did a fantastic job as always of getting him looking super handsome, it will be imperative that you have a groomer who is used to more challenging dogs that can keep on top of his grooming requirements going forward.
Nacho walks well on the lead and travels ok in the car safely in a crate or on a seatbelt harness, he is house trained and sleeps downstairs quietly at night with the other dogs. He is fine to be left for a few hours with another dog for company but wouldnt want to be alone all day. He will need a home with a nice secure garden to play in and someone fit and active enough to provide him with good length daily exercise.
Being fostered in Swadlincote, Derbys but can be rehomed further afield to the right experienced home subject to homecheck and adoption donation of £300
