Prince is an 8yr old Shih Tzu, he is castrated, fully vaccinated, microchipped, flea and wormed. He will be rehomed with 5 weeks free pet insurance.
Prince came to us after his elderly owner went into care and there was no one to look after him, he had actually been adopted from another rescue who we know well when he was just a year old but it was agreed he would stay under our care now. Prince has had a dental with us and he has previously had TECA (total ear canal ablation) surgery in the past as one of his ears is sewn shut so he can only hear out of one ear.
Prince will need an experienced home who not only understands shih tzu's and some of their behaviours but who has also lived with a dog who may try to bite if mishandled.
Prince has been used to living a quiet life as an only dog and coming into a busy foster home was quite a change for him. He is very good with other dogs though and does seem to enjoy their company so that was a real bonus. He can happily share his new home with another friendly neutered dog but he isnt good with cats. He is mostly a friendly boy who enjoys a fuss and will happily welcome and say hello to visitors with enthusiasm.
He has a bit of a stubborn streak so if asked to go outside to the toilet for example and he doesn't want to go he will just stand his ground, if pressed he can then become reactive but this has been worked on with routine and firm requests resulting in a little reward when he does as he is asked and now he is settled and knows what is expected he is doing brilliantly but he must be given that time to work it out.
Prince is absolutely loving his walks with his fellow foster dogs and will need a home who can give him daily exercise, we haven't let him off so dont know what his recall is like. He doesn't like a harness or slip lead over his head but will happily let you clip a normal lead onto his collar.
He is house trained, sleeps quietly downstairs with the other dogs at night and is fine being left for a few hours in the day with canine company.
Prince really doesn't like being groomed, he is very fearful and will try and bite so he will need a home who already has a very experienced groomer on hand who will help dogs like him. His current fosterer is a professional groomer who specialises in dogs like Prince and she is more than happy to keep grooming Prince for a new owner if local enough to travel back to her in Hinstock, Shropshire.
Prince isn't able to be rehomed with resident children, he will need a quieter home with a nice secure garden. He travels ok in the car and enjoys going out and about.
Prince is being fostered in Hinstock, Shropshire and you will need to be able to travel there to meet/adopt, home offers are subject to a homecheck and an adoption donation of £200
