Sammy is a 5yr old Springer Spaniel, he is castrated, fully
vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated and has a clean bill
of health. He will be rehomed with 5 weeks free pet insurance.
Sammy came to us after his vet contacted us asking for help, he had
been booked in to be PTS after a visiting older child to the family
home didn't read Sammy's cues to back off and he snapped at her arm
causing a bruise and red mark (more details will be discussed with any
serious enquiries), he did not break the skin and it was clearly a
warning, he did not deserve to lose his life over a mistake. Having
other children in the home the owners felt they could no longer keep
him so we offered him the lifeline he needs and we are so glad we did.
Sammy is looking for an experienced spaniel owner who understands
their traits and can provide him with the activity levels he needs.
Sammy is such a lovely dog, he is a real pleasure to care for here and
has been such a good boy. When he arrived he was understandably a bit
shell shocked coming into a strange home and a very large pack of new
dogs but his behaviour around them is impeccable, he is pretty
bombproof with other dogs.
Because he was anxious when he arrived he gave us very clear signals
showing us the whites of his eyes and choosing a safe space to sit, he
was certainly not inviting attention at that stage so that, of course
was totally respected until he was ready to approach and seek that out
from us. After a day or two he was my best friend, wanting to climb
on my lap for a fuss, and laying at my feet, head resting on me whilst
I worked. Now we have that bond and mutual trust, he is a sweetheart.
Sammy is a typical springer that he LOVES his toys and will play fetch
with a ball all day, he is great at bringing it straight back and will
give it to you to throw again. He just LOVES being outside on a lovely
long walk, he is strong on the lead at first and that does need some
work but he does settle down and his recall is fantastic so he can go
offlead in a nice safe area. He particularly likes to carry a big
stick around on our walks here, his tail never stops wagging and he
loves exploring.
Sammy is fine with the vet, he travels ok in the car and settles down
after about 10 mins, he is a perfect house guest in that he is totally
housetrained, sleeps quietly downstairs at night with the other dogs
without a peep and is fine being left for a few hours in the day,
especially after a nice long walk.
He loves his food and is fed alongside other dogs with no issues. He
is a couple of kg's overweight at the moment and needs a bit of a diet
to get him to full fitness. He cannot live with cats but seems
workable around horses. We cannot home him with resident children
under 16yrs.
Sammy is being fostered in Swadlincote, South Derbyshire but can be
rehomed further afield subject to homecheck and adoption donation of
£250
