Monty is a 1yr old working cocker spaniel, he is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated and will be rehomed with 5 weeks free pet insurance.

Monty arrived with us a few weeks ago when his family who had purchased him as their first dog during lock down could no longer cope with him.

Sadly Monty had shown some guarding issues at a young age which had not been handled well and there was simply no positive relationship there within in the family and the behaviour escalated when his owners became scared of him and he took advantage. He does have a bite history to Level 1 bite but would escalate this further if mishandled.

Monty has taken some time to decompress fully here and we initially saw some of the challenging behaviour he had been doing in his old home which included launching to bite if he thought someone was approaching to challenge him when he had a stolen item. By standing our ground and showing him that this wasn't acceptable but more importantly building a bond of trust and a relationship with Monty this behaviour has now disappeared here BUT be under no illusion, a move to a new situation will trigger anxieties in him again where this may rear its head again
SO YOU WILL NEED TO BE PREPARED.

It can be quite scary to someone not used to dealing with aggression issues so we need a VERY EXPERIENCED HOME with a person or couple who can handle this and continue to work on it (with our support and guidance).

Monty is a really naughty puppy!! He was shut away for many hours in his former home and not allowed in the family parts of the house due to his behaviour of stealing and then guarding any item he could find. He is constantly looking for mischief and into ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING, he is a prolific thief so nothing should be left laying around otherwise risk losing it, remotes, shoes, carrier bags, ornaments - you name it and Monty thinks its something to grab and run off with. He is a really bright boy and has quickly realised that the bribe of swopping for a treat means he loses his item so he doesnt respond to that trick now however he is such an inquisitive boy he can be distracted by doing something more interesting where he feels he is missing out.

Monty is a loving lad who thrives on attention, he loves a cuddle and lots of fuss and is friendly to everyone he meets when out and about. He needs a home with people who will make him the centre of their world and keep him busy!

He stress humps quite frequently and will hump his bed or cushions, he also paces quite a lot, these are his coping mechanisms which we hope once he becomes more settled in the right home over time will diminish.

Monty is absolutely great with other dogs and 100% needs another very robust, active, playful dog (ideally another spaniel or larger breed) in his forever home. His playstyle is quite hard so he will need another young dog who will rough and tumble and play chase with him as an older, small or timid dog wont cope. He is absolutely fine with dog savvy cats who will stand their ground and not run and he has been good with the livestock here.

Monty has excellent recall and is a pleasure to walk, he travels well in the car and loves going on different adventures. He is a young active spaniel and needs LOTS of exercise and mental stimulation, he is much fitter and slimmer now than when he arrived with us. He is clean in the house and sleeps downstairs quietly at night. He is ok to be left for a few hours in the day but it needs to be a nice safe area for him where he cant get into mischief.
