Wordsworth is a 2 1/2 yr old Yorkshire Terrier boy who is castrated, vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated and will be rehomed with 5 weeks free pet insurance and a free rehoming pack.
He is a tall leggy boy (bigger than your standard yorkie) and has a very curly coat and a gorgeous little face.
Wordsworth (or Wordie for short) was signed over to us after he was booked into our vets to be PTS, fortunately our lovely vets called us and we were more than happy to help.
It seems that Wordie had been allowed to become territorial of his former home, thinking it was his job to protect and keep any visitors at bay. His former owners reported that he had bitten several visitors and had then reacted to them on a particular occasion when a visitor had just left the house and he was frustrated as he couldn’t get to them.
Since being here with us he has quickly understood that there is absolutely no need for him to feel that he has to be the protector, he was vocal with visitors here at first but was gentle and quietly told that he doesn’t need to do that here and watching the other dogs he soon got the hang of it and has been very welcoming to all the visitors that have been here, including a 7yr old child who he absolutely adored.
He has been very sweet natured and loving her, he loves to snuggle up on your lap and we have seen zero aggression from him even when being bathed and having his eyes cleaned.
Wordie needs a "dog savvy" home, he need a home who wont pander to him and who will "lead" from the front so he can relax knowing he doesn’t have to try and take control. He should not be allowed to run to the front door (its your home not his) and should be introduced to visitors once he is calm and relaxed. Visitors should be told to ignore him when they enter, follow some simply structure and this little lad will continue to blossom in the right home.
Wordie has done well with living with a large pack of dogs here, he can became a little over stimulated with other dogs and would benefit from living with a larger non reactive confident, neutered dog who wont take any messing from him. He is a typical terrier who will bark at and chase cats.
Because of his previous bite history sadly we cannot consider homes with small children but we know he loves kids so are happy to rehomed where there are dog savvy children aged 12yrs and over.
He is clean in the house, sleeps downstairs with the other dogs quietly at night, isn’t destructive and he absolutely LOVES his walks. He has great recall and loves running off lead so will need an active home with someone who can take him for lots of lovely long walks, he is a young dog and needs plenty of exercise. He travels ok in the car.
Being fostered in Swadlincote, South Derbys but can be rehomed further afield subject to homecheck and donation.
