Lucy is a 3yr old Shar Pei, she is spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated, flea and worm treated and recently undergone entropion surgery and a extraction of a broken tooth. She now has a clean bill of health and will be rehomed with 5 weeks free pet insurance.
Lucy came to us from the stray pound where she was about to be put to sleep, she had been found in a drug den living in appalling conditions and was in a real mess! What was even more shocking was when we did some background checks we discovered this poor poor girl had already been through the stray system in a different part of the country back in Feb 26, she was in a mess then and brought back to health before being rehomed only to end up in an even worse situation just a few months later.....she must have been sold on almost straight away.....our heart absolutely breaks for her to have to go through so much and be let down by humans over and over again.
Lucy is very much a typical pei when it comes to new people and being aloof and a bit wary at first but quite honestly, wouldn't you be after having gone through all that! With kind and gentle acknowledgement and just a bit of time she soon warms to kind people though and bonds quickly to her care giver and is then very loving and of course loyal. She will definitely suit a Shar Pei experienced home and owner who understands their strong breed traits and can give her the time and space these dogs need to really settle and grow in confidence.
Lucy has shared a home with another dog but she can be selective so is probably best homed as the only dog in the home, she may be able to be introduced to a neutered pei male successfully but it will depend on the match and the owners dedication to making it work and giving them time to settle in with each other and work on the relationship.
Lucy can be vocal on the lead when out towards other dogs and strangers but her fosterer is working with our behaviourist to overcome this. She absolutely loves being off lead in an enclosed dog field and loves a ball and a game of chase, her recall is pretty good.
She has been clean in the home as long as she has access to a garden, she has become very attached to her fosterer and in typical pei style hates having doors shut on her and has recently developed a bit of separation anxiety so someone who is around a lot of the time would be great.
Her skin is now in excellent condition and responded really well to a grain free, poultry free diet, she has put on a nice bit of weight and is a larger pei at around 25kg.
We can consider a home with shar pei savvy older children but as she has been through so much we think children would need to be 12yrs and over and very used to the breed, she cannot live with cats.
Lucy is being fostered in Northampton but can be rehomed further afield subject to home check and adoption donation of £300
