PLEASE READ CAREFULLY HE NEEDS A EXPERIENCED AND SPECIFIC HOME.
Rocky is a 2yr old small French Bulldog (around 8kg), he is castrated, microchipped, vaccinated, flea and worm treated. He will be rehomed with 5 weeks free pet insurance but this will not cover a pre existing condition related to his heart.
Rocky came to us as a tiny 14 week old puppy after his owner purchased him then discovered he had a significant heart murmur that she couldnt afford investigations for. He went straight to our cardiologist who
diagnosed severe pulmonary stenosis, Rocky needed to immediately go onto medication which supported his heart as he grew bigger before he could have a procedure to help his condition.
Rocky was also born completely DEAF, he has a crumpled ear and he had a retained testicle. In November 2024. Rocky had a stent put into his heart at Willows referrals which was really successful, he needs to remain on medication for life most probably but it's really cheap at around £20 a bottle which lasts around 8 weeks plus.
As Rocky grew up in his foster home he began to show some resource guarding behaviour around food, and sometimes people, towards other dogs and cats, this then extended to food on people's plates as they were eating on the sofa as well as his own food and treats. It did result in his fosterer getting bitten as she got between the dogs and Rocky diverted onto her.
We found Rocky a new home a year ago and despite some initial settling in issues where the new owner was getting to know his mannerisms he was doing well, or so we thought! Sadly what we didn't know was that
the new owner didn't disclose to us that she suffered with mental health issues and she firstly failed to continue with his heart
medication (even though we had offered total support and even provided a prescription) and then she moved in with a friend into a busier household and Rocky couldnt cope and bit fellow housemates and visitors multiple times as he was put into a difficult environment. We knew none of this until we received an urgent call from a friend
telling us Rocky needed to be returned, we were devastated he had been let down so badly after everything we had done for him both medically and to support him for life for then his health and wellbeing to be
compromised in the way it was.
Since coming back to HQ Rocky has settled in great like he hadn't been away, he has mellowed a lot around food and we feed him separately to give him the space he needs around a bowl. He sleeps quite a lot for a
young dog due to his heart condition and when left alone to do his own thing we really dont know we have him. We would love to find him a similar home to here with someone who is VERY dog experienced with dogs that can be reactive, that maybe has a bit of a pack of dogs where he can just slot in and not be a centre of focus and where he can follow the lead of other well socialised dogs because that's where he seems to do best.
He gets on well with other dogs here and out and about and actually enjoys their company, he particularly likes large dogs and loves to
play and snuggle with the great danes here and rough and tumble with the spaniels. Strangely the other dog he gets on least with is the other Frenchie here so we are seeking a home with another larger dog tolerant breed in the home. If he does get into a squabble it is imperative that no one reached in to try and intervene directly as this is when he will divert, we use a barrier to calm the situation
and it settles quickly and easily that way with no big drama.
Being deaf can make it difficult to get his attention sometimes and he doesn't hear other dogs grumbling at him for example so we have been working with hand signals to help him which he generally responds well
to.
Rocky can be an absolute sweetheart and we have no issues with him day to day here, he is loving, friendly, playful and just loves to have a snuggle with you. He is generally a really good boy in the home and will settle down being left for several hours without any trouble, he sleeps downstairs quietly with the other dogs at night, usually snuggled under a blanket which he loves or cuddled up to a big dog.
His house training has taken a bit of a step backwards and has always been a bit hit and miss but he is getting better with that. He is
enjoying his food, he can have a slightly sensitive tummy but it's nowhere near as bad as it used to be and he does sometimes have some regurgitation but it causes no concern for us or the vets.
Rocky CANNOT be homed with children or where there are regularly visiting children to the home, he can live with dog savvy cats (he
will bark but there's no malice), he can live with larger dog friendly placid dogs. He will need a home with a fully secure garden to run and play in. He travels well in the car, loves his walks and was a really good boy with the vet recently when he had a health check on his heart.
Being fostered in Swadlincote, Derbys and whilst we will consider further afield to the perfect experienced home we would prefer to be within reasonable travelling distance so we can continue to give hands on support if needed.
