Bandit is a 21 month old blue Great Dane male, he is castrated, microchipped, vaccinated, flea and worm treated and has a clean bill of health. He will be rehomed with 5 weeks free pet insurance.
Bandit came to us along with his brother after being purchased from freeads and then the new inexperienced owner realising he had taken on more than he could handle with 2 adolescent male danes!
Bandit isn't the biggest of danes and still has some growing and filling out to do before he reaches full maturity (he currently weighs 55kg) but he is a handsome boy all the same.
He is eating really well and gets very excited for his food so feeding him up won't be a problem and he has already gained condition since being with us.
Bandit has obviously not had the most stable past so far and we understand his original home wasn't able to socialise or walk the dogs much (hence their reason for selling them), so, coupled with being a typical adolescent dane, Bandit can be cautious of strangers until he gets to know them (treat giving also helps!) and then he will be your best friend. He seems particularly worried about males with bald heads for some unknown reason. Inside the home with his people he is a loving "lap dog", who loves a snuggle on the sofa and is a gorgeous friendly boy. He can sometimes try and jump up with excitement but this is being discouraged and worked on. He does know his basic commands and listens and responds well.
He absolutely loves his walks and gets very excited when the lead comes out, he was all over the place on the lead at first but with the help of a headcollar he now walks nicely buy your side. He can get spooked at new things (such as big xmas decorations currently in peoples gardens) but his fosterers have worked hard with him just letting him stop and take things in quietly before moving him past with confidence, he is a dog who looks for reassurance from his person. His recall is being worked on before being let off loose but he loves having zoomies round the garden.
When he sees other dogs outside he gets vocal and over excited and this over stimulation can lead to some lunging at other dogs, especially other males so his socialisation around other dogs will definitely need some further work, as his hormones settle and he comes through his teenage stage this should help a lot but new owners will need to be prepared to put some work in. For this reason we are seeking a home for Bandit where he is the only pet in the home and he needs a home who is experienced with owning a giant breed dog, ideally a dane. Children in the home will need to be used to large breed dogs and over 10yrs old. He hasnt bothered about cats out on a walk but has not been properly tested so needs a feline free home please.
He has been really clean in the house and sleeps downstairs quietly at night with no issues. He travels ok in the car and was good with the vet recently too. He is genuinely a lovely, goofy, happy youngster who just needs an experienced dane person to give him some 1-2-1 time to help him blossom into a well rounded adult.
Bandit is being fostered in Northampton but can be rehomed further afield subject to home check and adoption donation of £300. You will need to be able to travel to meet and adopt.
If you have the perfect home and experience to offer this gorgeous boy his forever home please email us telling us all about your home offer in detail along with your FULL ADDRESS and contact number to wonkypetsrescue@gmail.com
