PLEASE READ HER WRITE UP CAREFULLY, SHE NEEDS A VERY EXPERIENCED AND DEDICATED HOME THAT IS REASONABLY LOCAL TO US AS MULTIPLE MEET AND GREETS MAY BE REQUIRED FOR THIS LITTLE GIRL.
Sandy is a 1yr old chihuahua x jrt, she is spayed, fully vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated and has a clean bill of health.
Sandy came to us several weeks ago after she was removed from a really bad situation, she was absolutely terrified and completely unsocialised, everything and everyone sent her into a complete meltdown. This poor tiny dog was so conflicted as to how to behave she was constantly torn between flight (running away in fear) and fight (running forward to bite), her brain was in turmoil and overwhelmed.
Sandy bonded quickly with her foster mum in a lovely quiet knowledgeable foster home but it was clear that after weeks of work she needed some extra help to be able to slow her thought process a little and help her move forward with her training and confidence. We spoke with our vets and decided to trial her on CBD oil combined with a low dose of Reconcile and it has really helped her so very much. With this onboard we have been able to make significant progress with Sandy regarding her meeting and interacting with visitors to the home and it's allowed her to be able to go out visiting familiar people too with growing excitement and positivity. She still has a long way to go but we feel with the right person in the right home where she can settle, bond and her socialisation continued in the correct positive manner, this young little dog can carry on growing in confidence and really enjoy the rest of her life.
Once Sandy is your friend and trusts you she is a happy, funny, playful little dog who loves her toys, a rough and tumble on the carpet together and will happily sit on your knee where she feels safe for as long as you will let her. She would suit a quieter adult only home with one or two adults where someone is around a lot of the time. She is only a young girl though and could have another 15yrs ahead of her so she really needs an active home with possibly someone who is early retired or works from home and is still going to be able to take her for nice long rural walks once she is ready. She sadly isnt a suitable dog for an elderly person and she cannot live with children or where there are small children visiting regularly.
Sandy is in foster with another small dog who she gets on well with and she can absolutely be introduced to another resident small friendly dog who is confident and well socialised, in fact it would do her good, equally we will consider homes as the only dog for the right home. She isnt good with cats unfortunately.
She needs a home with a safe enclosed garden and you must have a way of separating her initially for visitors until she is fully settled and you understand completely how she needs to be correctly introduced to new visitors. Done wrongly and she will have the potential to get herself into trouble and will be very vocal too.
Sandy will walk on the lead but she is very nervous and skittish out on a walk, she needs a nice quiet rural place to walk safely. She finds the car very scary too and will drool and get herself worked up, travelling in a covered crate helps. She is very worried about vet visits and did need to be muzzled for her recent visits and vaccines but she will accept a muzzle being placed without issue as she gets positive rewards alongside it going on.
Sandy sleeps upstairs with the fosterer and doesnt make a sound all night, she is house trained and is fine being left for a few hours at a time if you need to go out. She loves her toys and eats well too.
Her new home will have direct experience of living with a dog with fear reactivity and have the knowledge, commitment and patience to continue the work we have done, the bonus being that in return you will have a little friend for life and be able to watch this girl blossom and be so proud of her just like we are.
Being fostered in Swadlincote, South Derbyshire, we prefer to keep her new home within reasonable travelling distance as more than one meet will be needed. Subject to home check and adoption donation of £250
